Tourist tax in Manchester could boost up city economy

When Manchester is said what comes first to your mind? People coming from countries in Africa, South Asia, and other erstwhile British Empire colonies, outside London, Manchester was one of the most important centres of regal power, mostly financial. It cotton and textile mills, this city placed itself significantly in the financial headwinds of colonial India, when objections against the British rule were going powerful, and where in 19361, Mahatma Gandhi made it a point to visit the city.

The city is well-known to be the first industrialized city of the world, in addition to being the base of scientific milestones, like dividing the atom in 1917, along with the home of, Emmeline Pankhurst, a well-known suffragette, who headed the movement in regard to women’s right to vote.

At present, Manchester is yet in news to become the first British city to inflict a tourist tax. Visitors putting up in any Manchester city centre hotel or holiday apartment from April 1st are required to pay a £1 every night as the City Visitor Charge. This move is expected to generate revenue of £3 million annually that would be used behind tourism-related works and projects related to culture, along with more ordinary necessities like street cleaning.

In Britain, Manchester is the first city to levy the charge; however, there are many cities in Europe where it has already been levied for some time now.
