The increasing contribution from Middle Eastern travellers has encouraged Kerala to strengthen destination promotion, expand business partnerships and create more opportunities for international tourism growth.

Arab Markets Become a Key Pillar of Kerala’s Tourism Expansion Strategy

Kerala is increasingly focusing on high-value international travellers by expanding its presence in Arab markets. The Middle East has emerged as a significant source region due to strong demand for leisure holidays, wellness experiences, luxury stays, healthcare services and personalised travel experiences.

Countries including Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have become major contributors to Kerala’s international tourism growth. Oman achieved a notable milestone in 2024 by entering Kerala’s top 10 inbound tourism markets, surpassing traditional European markets such as Germany and France.

The continued rise in arrivals from Gulf countries has strengthened Kerala’s position as an attractive destination for Arab travellers. The state’s combination of scenic landscapes, luxury hospitality, wellness offerings and cultural experiences has helped create strong demand among visitors from the Middle East.

Kerala’s beaches, backwaters, hill destinations, heritage attractions and wellness centres provide a diverse travel experience that appeals to travellers seeking relaxation, premium holidays and long-duration stays.

Kerala Sets Two Hundred Thousand Arab Visitor Target

Kerala’s latest tourism growth plan aims to significantly increase its share of the Arab travel market by targeting two hundred thousand Arab tourist arrivals in the coming year.

The state expects this growth to create major economic benefits across the tourism ecosystem, including hotels, resorts, transport services, travel companies, wellness centres and local businesses.

Arab travellers represent a valuable segment for Kerala due to their preference for quality accommodation, extended holidays and premium experiences. Increasing arrivals from Middle Eastern countries could help generate year-round tourism demand and reduce dependence on traditional seasonal travel patterns.

The state is also focusing on attracting Arab visitors during different periods of the year, creating opportunities to improve tourism activity beyond peak travel seasons.

Indo-Arab Connect 2026 Boosts Tourism Partnerships

The Indo-Arab Connect 2026 Tourism Summit became a major platform for strengthening cooperation between Kerala’s tourism industry and Arab travel markets.

The summit brought together more than 162 tour operators from 10 Arab countries along with nearly 200 Indian tourism stakeholders, including representatives from hotels, resorts, wellness centres, houseboat operators and travel companies.

The event created opportunities for direct business engagement and generated 16,632 business meetings, allowing tourism businesses to establish partnerships, develop new travel packages and expand international connections.

The summit attracted more than 175 tour operators and travel agents from important Arab markets, including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and the UAE.

More than 100 exhibitors from India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives also participated, representing sectors such as hospitality, healthcare, wellness tourism, resorts and destination services.

The initiative highlighted Kerala’s efforts to strengthen its position as a preferred destination among Middle Eastern travellers and create stronger links between tourism businesses across regions.

Wellness, Luxury and Medical Tourism Drive Arab Visitor Demand

Kerala’s Arab tourism strategy is closely connected with the growing demand for wellness, luxury and medical travel experiences.

The state’s globally recognised wellness sector, supported by Ayurveda and traditional healing practices, remains one of its strongest attractions for Middle Eastern visitors. Many travellers from the region seek destinations that combine relaxation, healthcare services and premium hospitality.

Luxury resorts, private holiday experiences and nature-based tourism products are also expected to play an important role in attracting more Arab travellers.

Kerala’s ability to offer a combination of natural beauty, wellness, healthcare and cultural experiences provides a competitive advantage in the international tourism market.

Five Thousand Crore Rupees Revenue Goal Highlights Economic Potential

Kerala estimates that achieving the target of two hundred thousand Arab tourist arrivals could generate nearly Five Thousand Crore Rupees in tourism revenue.

The expected growth would support multiple sectors connected with tourism, including accommodation providers, transportation businesses, travel operators, wellness centres and local entrepreneurs.

The expansion of Arab tourism is also expected to contribute significantly to India’s foreign exchange earnings by increasing international visitor spending.

The state’s focus on Arab markets reflects a broader effort to attract high-value international travellers and strengthen tourism’s contribution to economic development.

Kerala Builds Long-Term Arab Tourism Growth Roadmap

Kerala’s growing focus on Arab markets represents a major shift in its international tourism strategy. Through stronger global partnerships, tourism networking events and targeted promotion, the state aims to establish itself as a leading destination for Middle Eastern travellers.

Future promotional activities across Arab countries are expected to further strengthen awareness of Kerala’s tourism offerings and encourage more travel partnerships.

The organisers of Indo-Arab Connect also plan to continue building connections between Kerala’s tourism industry and Arab travel businesses, with long-term ambitions to generate around ₹25,000 crore in tourism-related business from the Arab market over the next three to five years.

Kerala Tourism is betting big on Arab markets by targeting two hundred thousand visitors and Five Thousand Crore Rupees revenue, driven by rising Gulf arrivals, stronger tourism partnerships and growing demand for Kerala’s leisure, wellness and premium travel experiences.

With rising Arab visitor numbers, expanding tourism partnerships and a clear revenue ambition, Kerala is positioning itself for a new phase of international tourism growth driven by one of the world’s most influential travel markets.
