Australia’s Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa Set for a Historic Luxury Tourism Transformation as Beckons Unveils Ultra-Exclusive Desert Lodge Amid Iconic Red Sand Dunes for 2028 Opening

Beckons, the luxury lodge collection known for its exclusive retreats in some of the world’s most extraordinary and remote landscapes, has unveiled plans for a new ultra-luxury lodge positioned among the spectacular red dunes of Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa in Australia’s Red Centre. The upcoming property represents the portfolio’s first purpose-built development since the brand was launched in March 2026. The project has received approval after completing extensive environmental, cultural heritage and sacred site assessments, alongside consultation with Traditional Custodians.
The lodge’s official name and opening date will be revealed once construction schedules are confirmed, with the property currently expected to welcome guests in early 2028.

Designed as an exclusive nine-suite retreat, the new lodge will blend seamlessly into the surrounding desert environment, sitting discreetly within the dune landscape near Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park. Guests will enjoy uninterrupted views of Uluṟu from across the property, including the restaurant, bar, lounge areas and every private suite. Each accommodation will offer a front-row connection to the iconic landmark, with views extending from the comfort of the bedroom or private plunge pools designed as tranquil desert sanctuaries.
Positioned as the closest luxury accommodation experience to Uluṟu, the retreat will complement Beckons’ existing Red Centre presence at Longitude 131°, while introducing a more intimate and immersive style of luxury. The property will focus on architecture inspired by the natural contours of the desert, meaningful First Nations cultural experiences and personalised journeys that allow travellers to discover the landscapes, stories and traditions of Australia’s outback.

The multi-million-dollar development represents a significant milestone in Beckons’ international expansion strategy. The new Uluṟu retreat will strengthen the brand’s Australian portfolio alongside Southern Ocean Lodge, Longitude 131°, Capella Lodge, Silky Oaks Lodge and The Louise. It will also support Beckons’ wider global collection, which includes Huka Lodge in New Zealand, Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge in Canada, and Tierra Atacama and Tierra Patagonia in Chile.
With the new project, Beckons continues to build its reputation as a global operator of high-end nature-based lodges that combine exceptional locations, personalised hospitality and authentic connections with local environments and cultures. The company is also preparing for further international growth, with plans to introduce its distinctive luxury lodge concept to new destinations across additional continents.

“One of the world’s most powerful and spiritually significant landscapes, Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa is an extraordinary place to deepen our presence in Australia and grow our global footprint,” Mr Crawford said. “At Beckons, the most memorable journeys create a genuine connection to place. Here, that means personally guided experiences that reveal the ancient stories of Country and sky, and the living heritage of this remarkable landscape.”

Set against the breathtaking landscapes of Australia’s Red Centre, the upcoming luxury desert retreat by Beckons is designed to offer travellers an immersive connection with nature, culture and the ancient stories of the land. Created by Australia-based JAWS Architects, the retreat has been thoughtfully planned to complement the surrounding desert environment, creating a low-impact sanctuary that celebrates the beauty of the dunes and the spirit of the region.
The design philosophy behind the property focuses on harmony with the natural surroundings. Instead of standing apart from the landscape, the retreat has been shaped by the colours, textures and forms found throughout the Red Centre. Earth-inspired materials, warm desert tones and natural finishes reflect the character of the environment, allowing the architecture to blend seamlessly with the vast dune landscape. Every element has been carefully considered to ensure the lodge feels like a natural extension of its surroundings while providing an exclusive and refined experience for guests.
The accommodation experience will centre around privacy, comfort and a deep connection with the outdoors. The retreat will feature eight Desert Suites along with a larger multi-room Desert Pavilion, offering an intimate setting for travellers seeking a peaceful escape in one of Australia’s most iconic regions. Each accommodation space will include a private plunge pool and dedicated outdoor areas where guests can relax while taking in the dramatic desert views.
A highlight of the experience will be the outdoor daybeds equipped with luxury swags, creating the perfect setting for stargazing beneath the clear desert sky. Away from urban light pollution, visitors will have the opportunity to observe the spectacular night skies of the Red Centre, where ancient stories and natural wonders come together in one of the world’s most remarkable environments.

Beyond its architecture and luxury facilities, the retreat will place First Nations culture at the centre of the guest journey. Aboriginal heritage, traditional knowledge and storytelling will be woven throughout the experience, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the connection between people, land and sky.
Each suite will feature a unique commissioned artwork inspired by Kungkarangkalpa (Seven Sisters), a significant Aṉangu Creation story that is represented in the stars above the Central and Western Deserts. The celestial narrative reflects the deep cultural relationships between Indigenous communities and the landscapes they have cared for over countless generations.
The retreat will also build meaningful partnerships with respected Indigenous creative organisations, including Ernabella Arts, Tjanpi Desert Weavers, Tjala Arts and APY Centre Collective. These collaborations will provide guests with opportunities to experience authentic Aboriginal art, craftsmanship and cultural expressions while supporting ongoing creative practices.
Expert cultural guides will further enhance the stay by sharing knowledge about the region’s landscapes, traditions and stories passed down through generations. Through guided experiences, visitors will discover how the desert environment has been shaped by ancient wisdom, cultural practices and a profound respect for Country.
By combining sensitive design, luxury accommodation, Indigenous storytelling and unforgettable wilderness experiences, Beckons’ new retreat aims to introduce a distinctive way of experiencing Australia’s Red Centre. The property will offer travellers more than a desert escape, creating a meaningful connection with one of the world’s most culturally significant and visually extraordinary landscapes.
