Indonesia’s tourism sector powered ahead in July 2026 as international tourist arrivals climbed by nearly ten per cent from June to approximately 1.52 million, driven by strong travel demand from Malaysia, Australia and China. Expanding regional connectivity, Bali’s continued global appeal and rising visitor numbers through major entry points strengthened the monthly performance, while international arrivals during the first seven months reached 8.98 million, their highest level for the period since 2020.

Indonesia’s tourism industry recorded another strong month in July 2026, welcoming approximately 1.52 million international visitors. The total increased by 9.99 per cent from June and by 2.95 per cent compared with July 2025. Malaysia remained the biggest source of foreign visitors, while Australia and China delivered considerable monthly and annual growth. The results point to sustained international interest in Indonesian destinations and continued demand across the country’s domestic travel market.
Indonesia received 1,362,812 international tourists through its main entry points during July. Another 162,225 visitors entered through border crossings, taking the overall monthly total to slightly more than 1.52 million.

The rise represented a significant monthly improvement. It also kept arrivals above the level recorded during the corresponding month of 2025.
The figures demonstrate the continuing strength of Indonesia’s inbound tourism recovery. Airports, border crossings and tourism destinations are handling growing numbers of travellers as regional and international connectivity expands.
The increase can support hotels, restaurants, tour operators and local transport businesses. Popular destinations such as Bali may receive the greatest immediate benefits, although visitor spending can also reach other regions through connecting journeys and longer itineraries.
Indonesia recorded 8.98 million international tourist arrivals between January and July 2026. This was 5.23 per cent higher than the total registered during the same period in 2025.

It was also the country’s highest international arrival figure for the first seven months of any year since 2020.
This performance represents an important step for Indonesia’s visitor economy. A sustained rise in arrivals can strengthen tourism employment, accommodation demand and spending at attractions.
The figures also suggest that the recovery is moving beyond a short seasonal increase. Indonesia has now accumulated growth across seven months, providing a stronger foundation for the remainder of 2026.
Malaysia was Indonesia’s largest source of foreign tourists in July. Malaysian passport holders accounted for 15 per cent of all international arrivals during the month.
Australia ranked second, contributing 12.34 per cent of the total. China followed with a 10.28 per cent share.
These three countries together represented a substantial portion of Indonesia’s inbound market. Their importance also reflects the value of regional air links and Indonesia’s appeal to travellers from nearby countries.
Malaysia remains a major short-haul market because of its proximity and close regional connections. Australia continues to generate strong leisure demand, particularly for Bali. China has also maintained its importance as a source of visitors as regional travel demand develops.
Arrivals from Australia increased by 12.3 per cent in July compared with June. China recorded an even larger monthly rise of 33.40 per cent.
Malaysian arrivals declined by 11.59 per cent from June. Despite this reduction, Malaysia retained its position as Indonesia’s biggest international source market.
All three countries delivered annual growth. Malaysian arrivals increased by 7.83 per cent compared with July 2025. Australian visitor numbers rose by 8.67 per cent, while arrivals from China increased by 8.45 per cent.
The annual results are especially important because they show broader expansion across Indonesia’s main inbound markets. Monthly changes may be influenced by holidays, events, prices and travel schedules, but yearly growth indicates that overall demand remains stronger.
I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport handled the largest share of international tourists arriving through Indonesia’s principal entry points. Australian travellers formed a major part of its international passenger traffic.
The airport’s position reflects Bali’s continued importance to Indonesian tourism. The island offers beaches, cultural sites, hotels, resorts, restaurants and recreational experiences that appeal to travellers from several countries.
Strong arrivals through Bali can generate spending throughout the island’s tourism economy. They can also support onward travel to other Indonesian destinations.
However, the figures show the importance of encouraging tourists to explore beyond established gateways. Wider distribution of visitors could help regional destinations secure more tourism income and support local business development.
Indonesia’s domestic tourism market also expanded during July. Residents made 107.44 million trips within the country, representing growth of 0.23 per cent from June.
Domestic journeys increased by 7.23 per cent compared with July 2025. Between January and July 2026, Indonesian residents completed 737.85 million domestic trips, up 3.34 per cent year on year.
Domestic travel remains a critical pillar of the country’s tourism industry. Its enormous scale provides consistent demand for transport, accommodation and attractions, including in destinations that receive fewer international visitors.
Indonesia’s tourism powered ahead in July 2026 as international arrivals jumped nearly ten per cent from June to 1.52 million, driven by strong demand from Malaysia, Australia and China.
Indonesian residents made 802,670 overseas trips in July. The monthly total increased by 4.68 per cent from June and by 7.73 per cent from July 2025.
However, outbound travel remained lower over the longer reporting period. From January to July, Indonesians completed 5.26 million international journeys, down 3.25 per cent from the corresponding period of 2025.
July’s increase was linked to several seasonal influences. These included the end of the school holiday period and travel connected with Umrah pilgrimages. Religious journeys were particularly visible through Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport in Riau.
Events taking place in Southeast Asia and China also contributed to overseas travel demand. Overall, the July figures reveal a broadly expanding tourism market, supported by international arrivals, millions of domestic journeys and renewed monthly growth in outbound travel.
