The UAE, Malaysia and Vietnam are emerging as important partners in Thailand’s next major tourism chapter as the kingdom launches a bold 2027 travel transformation focused on high-value experiences, sustainability and global competitiveness. Thailand’s Tourism Authority (TAT) is reshaping its strategy to move beyond mass tourism and target quality travellers, with an ambitious revenue goal of over Two Trillion Thai Baht driven by more than 33 million international visitors, stronger international cooperation and innovative tourism models. The plan aims to position Thailand as a leading regional destination while creating long-term growth through premium travel experiences, technology, community-based tourism and strategic partnerships across key global markets.

Thailand is preparing a major tourism transformation for 2027 as the country shifts from a visitor-volume strategy towards a high-value travel model focused on quality experiences, sustainability, innovation and stronger global competitiveness. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched an integrated action plan meeting from 13 July to 16 July 2026 to define the policies, marketing strategies and operational direction that will shape the future of Thai tourism.

The new roadmap aims to establish Thailand as one of Asia’s leading destinations by attracting quality travellers, expanding tourism opportunities across communities and creating a stronger connection between tourism growth and the national economy.

Thailand Moves Beyond Mass Tourism With a Powerful “Value Over Volume” Strategy

The Thai government continues to recognise tourism as a key engine of economic growth, generating revenue, supporting local communities and strengthening the livelihoods of people across the country.

However, changing global travel trends, increasing competition and new traveller expectations have pushed Thailand to redesign its tourism approach. Instead of focusing mainly on increasing visitor numbers, the country is now prioritising higher spending travellers, meaningful experiences and sustainable tourism development.

The new strategy will follow four major directions:

The goal is to create a tourism industry that delivers stronger economic value, increases traveller confidence and creates greater pride among Thai citizens.

Thailand Strengthens Tourism Cooperation With Malaysia, Vietnam and Global Markets

The Thai government, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is placing tourism at the centre of its economic development strategy.

Through the Team Thailand approach, Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul has been assigned to join official international delegations to strengthen tourism cooperation alongside trade and investment partnerships.

Thailand is building stronger connections with key international partners, including:

These partnerships highlight Thailand’s strategy of expanding international cooperation while improving confidence among travellers worldwide.

Thailand Plans “Thais Travel Thailand Plus” Programme to Boost Domestic Tourism

Thailand is also preparing a new domestic tourism support initiative called “Thais Travel Thailand”, which could include an additional “Plus” component.

The programme is expected to provide government support for hotel accommodation while potentially extending benefits to other travel expenses, including car rentals and public transportation.

The tourism committee is scheduled to discuss the programme on 15 July 2026.

The initiative aims to encourage Thai citizens to travel more frequently within the country, supporting hotels, transport providers, local businesses and communities that depend on domestic tourism.

Thailand Targets THB2.76 Trillion Tourism Revenue With 33 Million Foreign Visitors

Under the TAT’s 2027 strategic plan, Thailand has set an ambitious tourism revenue target of THB2.76 trillion.

The target is based on:

Thailand also wants to increase domestic travel frequency from the current average of more than two trips per person every year to three trips per person annually.

The revenue plan covers multiple tourism segments, including:

By diversifying tourism segments, Thailand aims to build a stronger and more stable tourism economy.

Middle East Conflict Challenges Thailand’s Tourism Recovery Plans

Thailand’s tourism sector faced difficulties in 2026 due to international uncertainty, particularly the impact of the Middle East conflict.

The situation affected travel demand from several Middle Eastern markets, which Thailand had identified as important sources of future tourism revenue.

Most remaining demand from the region came from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Although tourism conditions showed signs of improvement during the middle of 2026, renewed tensions created fresh uncertainty and slowed recovery expectations.

Despite these challenges, TAT continues to develop strategies to attract visitors from diverse markets and reduce dependence on specific regions.

Four Strategic Pillars Will Transform Thailand Into a Future Tourism Powerhouse

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool described the 2027 action plan as a major transformation period for Thai tourism.

The agency has named 2027 the “Year of Transformation”, focusing on changes in strategy, marketing, tourism products and organisational management.

The transformation will be driven by four strategic pillars:

Shape Market Portfolio: Thailand will focus on attracting more high-value tourists and improving the quality of its international visitor markets.

Shape Experience Platform: The country will move from simply selling destinations towards creating complete travel experiences throughout the year, while promoting secondary cities and local communities.

Shape New Growth Engine: Thailand will develop new tourism opportunities through the Life Economy, Creative Culture and Subculture Economy, and Sustainable Tourism.

Transform Organisation: TAT will become a more agile, technology-focused and data-driven organisation prepared for future challenges.

Thailand is entering a new era of tourism growth as it partners with global markets, including the UAE, Malaysia and Vietnam, to achieve a historic revenue target through a smarter, sustainable and high-value travel strategy.

Thailand to Reveal 2027 Tourism Marketing Plan in August

After completing the 2027 action plan meeting, TAT will organise a Market Briefing to share international tourism conditions and marketing strategies from its overseas offices.

A Tourism Clinic will also connect Thai tourism businesses with TAT representatives from global markets to exchange knowledge, build partnerships and identify new opportunities.

Both events will take place on 21 July 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok.

In August 2026, TAT will officially announce Thailand’s 2027 tourism marketing direction, giving industry partners a clear roadmap to support stronger, sustainable and higher-value tourism growth.

Thailand’s next tourism chapter is now focused on quality, innovation and global confidence, positioning the kingdom for a new era of travel success.
