Los Angeles joins New York, Dubai and Paris among the world’s most crowded autumn travel destinations, according to new research by Eminent. The Californian city ranks eighth, with an estimated 11.88 million visitors between September and November 2026, highlighting growing pressure on popular attractions, accommodation and visitor spending during autumn.

Los Angeles has emerged as one of the world’s busiest autumn tourism destinations, joining New York City, Dubai, London and Paris in a new international ranking. Research released by luggage retailer Eminent in September 2026 places the Californian city eighth among 50-plus destinations assessed for visitor volumes, hotel occupancy, travel costs and attraction searches.
Fall is the worst time to visit New York City, with hotels running at 87% capacity and over 16 million tourists expected to arrive, according to the latest September 2026 report on autumn travel. This newly released study by the online luggage shop Eminent reveals the top 10 destinations to avoid this fall.

Los Angeles Ranks Eighth as Autumn Tourism Demand Remains Strong

Los Angeles recorded a Crowd Pressure Index score of 78.8 out of 100, placing it eighth in the study’s global top ten.

The research estimates that 11.88 million visitors will travel to Los Angeles between September and November 2026. This makes it one of the highest-volume destinations in the ranking, behind New York City’s estimated 16.25 million and Paris’s 12.8 million.

The findings underline the importance of autumn tourism to Los Angeles. Its beaches, entertainment attractions, museums and cultural districts continue to attract visitors beyond the traditional summer holiday season.

However, the figures are research estimates rather than confirmed arrivals. They indicate potential tourism pressure, not a verified count of visitors.

Los Angeles Hotels Face Demand Despite Lower Occupancy

Los Angeles stands out because its estimated autumn hotel occupancy rate is 68.5%, significantly lower than those of several competing destinations.

New York City leads with 86.5%, followed by Tokyo at 86% and Singapore at 84.5%.

This difference suggests that Los Angeles may offer travellers greater accommodation flexibility than cities facing tighter hotel availability.

Nevertheless, visitors planning trips around major events or popular attractions may still encounter expensive accommodation and busy tourist districts.

The research estimates average daily spending in Los Angeles at $299 per person.

For a seven-day visit, that represents approximately $2,093 per traveller, based on the study’s daily cost estimate.

Hollywood, Beaches and Entertainment Drive Visitor Interest

Los Angeles remains internationally recognised for Hollywood, its entertainment industry, coastal neighbourhoods and major cultural attractions.

Visitors can explore the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Griffith Observatory, Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach and the Getty Center.

The study reports an average autumn search volume of 70.8 million for leading Los Angeles attractions, indicating substantial online interest.

However, search activity does not directly measure physical visitor numbers. Searches can include local residents, prospective travellers and people researching destinations without booking trips.

Autumn temperatures average 19.4°C, according to the study, offering comparatively mild conditions for outdoor sightseeing.

This combination of attractions and weather helps explain the city’s continuing appeal during September, October and November.

New York City Leads the Global Autumn Crowding Ranking

New York City occupies first place with a maximum Crowd Pressure Index score of 100.

The study estimates 16.25 million autumn visitors, hotel occupancy of 86.5% and average daily travel spending of $363.

Dubai ranks second with 93.2 points, followed by London at 88.5 and Paris at 83.9.

Singapore completes the top five with 82.7 points.

Tokyo ranks sixth, Kyoto seventh, Los Angeles eighth, Las Vegas ninth and Abu Dhabi tenth.

Las Vegas records the highest estimated daily travel cost among these destinations at $369 per person.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi also remain relatively hot during autumn, with average temperatures of 29.6°C.

What the Ranking Means for Los Angeles Tourism

The findings highlight an important distinction between visitor volume and accommodation pressure.

Los Angeles has a higher estimated autumn visitor total than several cities ranked above it, including Dubai, London, Singapore and Tokyo. Yet its lower hotel occupancy reduces its overall crowd pressure score.

For tourism businesses, this indicates opportunities to distribute visitors across different neighbourhoods, attractions and travel periods.

For travellers, the findings reinforce the importance of comparing accommodation prices, checking major event schedules and planning visits to popular attractions.

Eminent’s research combines estimated visitor arrivals, hotel occupancy, attraction search interest, daily travel costs and seasonal temperatures into a composite score.

The methodology provides a comparative indicator rather than a direct measurement of overcrowding at every attraction.

Autumn Travel Is Becoming an Important Global Tourism Season

The research challenges the assumption that the end of summer automatically brings quieter travel conditions.

Major international destinations continue to attract substantial visitor interest throughout autumn, supported by cultural experiences, urban attractions and seasonal weather.

For Los Angeles, the combination of nearly 12 million estimated visitors, mild temperatures and substantial online attraction searches points to sustained autumn tourism demand.

Its comparatively lower hotel occupancy also suggests that travellers may have more flexibility than in several higher-ranked cities.

The broader message for the travel industry is clear: autumn tourism demand requires careful destination planning, accurate visitor information and effective management of popular attractions.
