Fiji Welcomes Jaguar High-Speed Ferry as South Sea Cruises Group Strengthens Marine Tourism Infrastructure Offering Travellers Smoother Island Journeys, Modern Facilities and Seamless Access to Mamanuca and Yasawa Escapes, New Update

Fiji has welcomed a major addition to its marine transport network as South Sea Cruises Group introduces Jaguar, a new high-speed passenger ferry designed to enhance island connectivity and strengthen Marine Tourism infrastructure. Scheduled to enter service in early August, the vessel has been developed to support smoother journeys across Fiji’s Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands while providing improved comfort, operational flexibility and more efficient travel experiences for guests.
The launch of Jaguar represents the completion of South Sea Cruises Group’s two-year fleet renewal programme, following the introduction of Yasawa Flyer III in August 2025 alongside other recently added vessels, including Yasawa Princess II, Lynx and Puma. The new ferry has been positioned as an important addition to the company’s expanding fleet, supporting the continued development of Fiji’s island tourism experiences.

Jaguar Expands Fiji’s High-Speed Ferry Network With Enhanced Passenger Comfort
Jaguar has been designed by Brisbane-based Australian shipbuilder Aus Ships Group specifically to meet the requirements of Fiji’s island transport network. The vessel has been created to improve access between mainland connections and some of the country’s most recognised island destinations, including the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands.
With a passenger capacity of 227 guests, Jaguar has become Fiji’s third-largest high-speed passenger ferry. The vessel has been equipped with advanced MAN V12 engines, which provide an estimated 10 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency compared with similar vessels.

South Sea Cruises Group Completes Major Fleet Renewal Programme
The arrival of Jaguar marks the final stage of South Sea Cruises Group’s two-year fleet renewal programme. The investment has introduced several new vessels designed to strengthen the company’s ability to serve Fiji’s growing tourism sector.
The fleet expansion follows the successful launch of Yasawa Flyer III, which received a positive response after entering service in August 2025. Jaguar has been introduced as a complementary vessel, providing additional flexibility across the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands.
South Sea Cruises Group chief executive officer Brad Rutherford explained that Jaguar had been purpose-built to work alongside the existing fleet. He highlighted that while the vessel was slightly smaller than Yasawa Flyer III, it would play an important operational role by supporting resort partners, tourism operators and wholesale distribution networks.
The company stated that the investment demonstrated confidence in the future of Fiji tourism and reflected ongoing efforts to enhance guest experiences through improved marine connectivity.
Advanced Ride-Control Technology Supports Smoother Island Journeys
A key feature of Jaguar is its full ride-control system, which is also installed on Yasawa Flyer III. These are currently the only two passenger vessels in Fiji equipped with this technology.
The ride-control system has been designed to provide smoother sailings and improve passenger comfort, including during more challenging sea conditions. The technology represents another step forward in Fiji’s Marine Tourism infrastructure by focusing on a more comfortable and efficient travel experience.
