Colorado Outpaces Alabama and More US States in Fast Food Service Rankings

Colorado leads the US fast food service rankings, with Alabama, Louisiana, Oregon and Oklahoma completing the top five. A new study examining nearly one million Google reviews reveals significant differences in how frequently American customers praise quick service, offering fresh insights into restaurant convenience and the wider dining experience.
A study by Maine Lobster Now analyzed nearly one million Google reviews of major fast-food chains to identify where customers are most likely to mention receiving fast or quick service.
Colorado Tops US Rankings for Fast Food Service
Fast food remains an important part of everyday dining across the United States, particularly for commuters, road travellers, families and visitors looking for convenient meals. However, new research suggests that customers are more likely to praise the speed of service in some states than others.

A study conducted by Maine Lobster Now analysed nearly one million Google reviews covering five major fast-food chains: McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Taco Bell and KFC.
The research examined customer feedback across 48 US states, measuring the proportion of reviews that mentioned fast or quick service. Higher percentages indicate that customers were more likely to highlight speed in their reviews.

Colorado emerged as the national leader, with 13.45% of reviews mentioning fast service.

Oregon and Oklahoma completed the top five, both recording 13.24%.
The results suggest that customers across different regions frequently recognise efficient service, even when visiting the same national restaurant brands.
California also performed strongly, ranking sixth nationally with 13.21% of reviews mentioning quick service.

Vermont, Wyoming and South Dakota Record the Lowest Shares

Wyoming ranked 47th with 9.27%, while South Dakota occupied 46th position at 10.15%.

The difference between Colorado and Vermont reached 4.30 percentage points. Relative to Vermont’s result, Colorado’s share was approximately 47% higher.
However, the findings do not establish that restaurants in Vermont necessarily take longer to prepare meals.
Customers may describe their experiences differently depending on expectations, restaurant location, staffing, order complexity and other factors.
California Outperforms Florida, Texas and New York
The study also identified differences among America’s largest states.
California ranked sixth with 13.21%, placing it among the strongest performers for customer mentions of fast service.
Florida occupied 26th position with 11.83%, while Texas ranked 33rd at 11.42%.

New York stood 39th nationally, with 11.04% of reviews referencing quick service.
These variations offer an interesting perspective on customer expectations in major tourism and commercial markets.
For visitors navigating unfamiliar cities, fast-food restaurants often provide accessible dining options near highways, airports, attractions and accommodation districts.
However, statewide rankings cannot establish the service speed of individual restaurants or predict waiting times at particular locations.
Why Fast Food Service Matters for American Travellers
Convenience remains central to the appeal of fast-food restaurants, especially during journeys where travellers have limited time between activities.
Road-trip passengers may prefer quick meals during scheduled stops, while airport-bound travellers often need predictable dining experiences before departures.

Families visiting major attractions may similarly value efficient ordering and food preparation.
For restaurants operating in tourism destinations, balancing speed with accuracy, cleanliness and customer care can help strengthen the overall visitor experience.
Efficient service may also encourage repeat visits, particularly when customers are travelling through busy commercial corridors.
Nevertheless, the research measures what reviewers mention rather than actual transaction times, meaning it should be interpreted as an indicator of customer feedback rather than a definitive speed test.
Customer Reviews Highlight the Importance of Consistency
Julian Klenda, spokesperson for Maine Lobster Now, explained that convenience and efficient service remain important expectations among fast-food customers.
He noted that differences between states are particularly interesting because the research examines the same major restaurant brands.

Klenda also emphasised that online reviews offer insights into customer perceptions without establishing precisely how many minutes individual orders take.
His observations reinforce the importance of consistent restaurant operations, accurate orders and attentive customer service.
For the hospitality and travel sectors, the findings underline how even routine dining experiences can influence customers’ impressions of convenience.
Colorado’s leading position highlights how frequently customers recognise quick fast-food service, while differences across other states reveal varied dining experiences. For travellers and restaurant operators, the findings reinforce the importance of efficiency, consistency and convenience. Ultimately, reliable service remains essential to making everyday meals easier during journeys across America.
