We interview Nisha Amir from Visit Maldives Corporation, who unveils the destination’s strategy to move beyond its traditional focus on couples and honeymoons. Next year, Maldives is opening up to girls’ groups, multigenerational families, solo workations, and large corporate groups.

• New Tourism Segments: Maldives has already welcomed large groups, including a thousand-person corporate holiday and a 300-person wedding group this year. The focus for next year is firmly on MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions), retreats, and diverse family/group demographics.
• Ocean Awareness Campaign: The country is 99% ocean and 1% land. The entire next year is dedicated to ocean awareness.
• Healing Focus: Initial campaigns will focus on how the ocean’s colors and therapeutic snorkeling heal the mind and spirit, connecting visitors with marine life like manta rays and whale sharks.
• Actionable Sustainability: Visitors will be encouraged to plant a little coral for the future of the country. The goal is for every visitor leaving the Maldives to be ocean aware.
• MICE Readiness: The Maldives is infrastructure-ready for MICE. Resorts near Malé have great connectivity and are hosting events from small wellness and healing retreats to large corporate getaways on the beach.
• New Market Targets: While top markets remain China, Russia, Italy, etc. , Maldives is now focusing on the Balkans region and Eastern Europe due to significant recent growth. They also hope to attract superyachts for three- to four-night stays.
