Utah’s resorts, towns and visitor attractions are preparing ski breaks, Christmas displays and mountain celebrations across Salt Lake City, Park City, Lehi, Ogden and Brian Head for November 2026 to January 2027, giving holidaymakers more ways to combine winter sport with family outings and evening entertainment.

The latest confirmed additions include five new experiences at Luminaria in Lehi, while Ogden, Brian Head and Sundance have published festive event dates. Together with skating, horse-drawn sleigh rides and mountain dining, these activities broaden the itinerary for groups travelling with both skiers and non-skiers, and give travel sellers more options beyond lift passes.

Luminaria Brings More Than 10 Million Lights to Lehi

Thanksgiving Point announced on 20 October that Luminaria will return with more than 10 million lights across the 50-acre Ashton Gardens. Its season runs from 12 November 2026 to 9 January 2027, starting before the main Thanksgiving holiday period.

Five additions lead the programme: Christmas on the Lake, Snow Glow Dance Party, Ignite the Night, Carol-oke and Gingerbread Lane. The experiences combine illuminated waterside scenes, dancing, music and a new night show. The attraction opens Monday to Saturday but closes on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Timed admission makes it possible to plan the visit around a wider touring itinerary.

Mountain Terrain and Airport Access Support Winter Stays

Utah’s winter reputation rests on its steep mountain terrain and light powder snow. The state tourism authority links that snow quality to the cold inland climate and describes typical snow as having around eight per cent water content.

Access adds another practical advantage. Visit Utah places 10 ski resorts within roughly an hour of Salt Lake City International Airport, although storms and traffic can lengthen transfers. Park City Mountain currently lists 20 November for its 2026/27 opening, while Deer Valley lists 5 December. These planned dates depend on conditions, making individual resort updates important for early-season accommodation and activity bookings.

Outdoor Skating Connects City Evenings with Mountain Holidays

At Salt Lake City’s Gallivan Center, outdoor skating takes place in a downtown setting framed by holiday lights. Standard admission includes skate hire, according to Visit Utah, making the rink an option for visitors arriving without equipment.

The Resort Center Ice Skating Rink at Park City Mountain offers an open-air setting, with Christmas trees, lights and music close to restaurants and shops. Both venues can fit around a ski day or a city stay. Operating dates require checks with the operators. An operating Solitude ice rink for winter 2026/27 was not confirmed in the resort information reviewed for this report.

Torchlight Parades Bring the Slopes into the Evening

Torchlight parades turn mountain descents into evening spectacles, with resort teams carrying lights down the slopes. Snowbird’s established Christmas Eve celebration combines the parade with fireworks and a Santa appearance from the Tram, viewed from the Snowbird Center Plaza Deck.

Deer Valley also has a documented tradition of Santa visits and a torchlight procession. Brian Head’s previous holiday programmes have included torchlight skiing and fireworks. These traditions add a shared evening experience after daytime skiing. However, previous programmes cannot establish this winter’s dates: individual 2026 timings and viewing arrangements still require confirmation before operators include them in a holiday package.

Park City’s Main Street Adds Shops, Galleries and Festive Displays

Park City’s historic Main Street gives visitors a different pace after the slopes. Its official holiday guide, updated on 23 October 2026, highlights decorated shop windows, a Christmas tree, Santa’s mailbox and seven large snow globes inspired by festive songs.

Boutiques, galleries and restaurants allow the walk to become an afternoon or evening outing. The destination’s November guide also highlights the CREATE PC Holiday Maker Market, featuring work from more than 50 local artists. For hotels and tour operators, these attractions provide a way to connect resort accommodation with businesses and cultural visits, without requiring a day of mountain sport.

Ogden’s Christmas Village Offers a Free Festive Evening

Ogden’s Christmas Village opens on 28 November 2026 and continues through 1 January 2027. Admission is free, giving families an evening attraction that can sit alongside paid skiing, dining and other holiday activities.

Opening day includes the Holiday Electric Light Parade along Washington Boulevard at 5.30pm, followed by a ceremony, fireworks and the village switch-on at approximately 6.30pm. Thereafter, lights operate from 5pm, closing at 10pm Sunday to Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday. Santa visits continue through 23 December. The combination of illuminated displays and community celebrations gives Ogden a distinct place within a northern Utah winter itinerary.

Horse-Drawn Sleighs Add a Dining Experience in Park City

Snowed Inn Sleigh Company runs horse-drawn rides on the slopes of Park City Mountain. Visitors can book a ride alone or combine the journey with lodge dining and live music. The operator lists two hours for the dinner experience and 20 to 25 minutes for standalone rides.

Deer Valley’s Fireside Dining offers a separate Alpine-style option at Empire Canyon Lodge. Its four-course menu draws on European mountain food, with dishes served from stone fireplaces. Horse-drawn sleigh rides require a separate reservation. This distinction matters when comparing packages, as a restaurant booking does not automatically include transport through the snowy landscape.

Solitude and Sundance Combine Forest Activities with Winter Dining

At Solitude, The Yurt pairs a guided snowshoe journey of approximately half a mile with a four-course dinner. Its published 2026/27 programme begins on 10 December. Reservations are required, and guests must be at least 14, making the age limit important for family bookings.

Sundance Mountain Resort offers snowshoeing and Nordic skiing, alongside separate dining at venues including the Tree Room and Foundry Grill. Its tree-lighting celebration is scheduled for 11 December 2026, with cocoa, cookies and Santa. These are distinct activities; the resort’s current information does not establish a combined horse-drawn sleigh-and-dinner package comparable to the Park City experiences.

Salt Lake City Adds Christmas Lights and Cultural Events

Temple Square’s Christmas lights and Hogle Zoo’s ZooLights remain established features of Salt Lake City’s festive visitor offer. However, complete 2026/27 lighting schedules were not verified in the current official information reviewed.

Temple Square has confirmed Christmas Opening Concerts at the Tabernacle on 27 and 28 November 2026 at 7pm, alongside free public performances during December. Hogle Zoo describes ZooLights as a separately ticketed evening display, with most animal habitats dark while animals rest. Its website still carries previous-season dates and says new holiday details are forthcoming. Those dates should not be presented as confirmed for the upcoming holiday season.

Brian Head Adds a Southern Utah Holiday Celebration

Brian Head’s town government has confirmed its annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony for 25 November 2026, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at Bristlecone Park Pavilion. The programme includes Santa, hot cocoa and cookies, providing a specific festive date for visitors considering southern Utah.

The town celebration is separate from resort torchlight programmes. Brian Head lies outside the northern Utah resort cluster around Salt Lake City and Park City. Its southern location supports a different winter itinerary, combining mountain accommodation and skiing with the region’s red rock scenery. Travel sellers need to account for the distances when combining northern and southern Utah stays.

Early Booking Helps Turn the Activities into a Practical Trip

Visit Utah identifies Christmas to New Year as one of the busiest periods for skiing and recommends booking accommodation, rentals, transport and lessons at least two months ahead for peak dates.

For travel sellers, the main planning priorities are:

  • Confirm each event’s year, date, operating hours and admission requirements.
  • Match dining and activity age limits to the travelling party.
  • Allow extra transfer time when storms or traffic affect mountain roads.
  • State whether meals, sleigh rides and event tickets are included.
  • Combine paid experiences with free options, including Ogden’s Christmas Village and selected Temple Square performances, according to the confirmed programme.
