Akasa Air’s New AME Training Programme Unlocks Aviation Careers as India Expands Aircraft Maintenance Sector

Akasa Air, one of India’s rapidly expanding airlines, has introduced its new Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) Training Programme, a strategic initiative aimed at developing a strong future workforce for the country’s aviation maintenance and engineering sector. The programme was launched on Engineer’s Day 2026, observed every year on 15 September across India, highlighting the importance of engineering skills in the growth of the aviation industry.

India’s Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) sector is entering a period of major expansion, driven by the rapid growth of airline fleets, rising aircraft operations, and the increasing focus on building domestic maintenance capabilities. This growth is expected to create significant career opportunities for skilled aviation professionals across airlines, MRO organisations, and aircraft manufacturers.

The newly launched AME programme has been designed in partnership with leading aviation education and training institutions to create a structured learning pathway for aspiring aircraft maintenance professionals. The initiative combines classroom-based technical knowledge with practical industry experience, helping students understand the operational requirements of modern aviation maintenance.

As part of the programme, participants will receive hands-on exposure with Akasa Air, gaining practical insights into next-generation aircraft systems, maintenance procedures, safety standards, and airline engineering operations. The training aims to prepare future engineers with the technical skills and industry understanding required to support a fast-growing aviation ecosystem built around safety, efficiency, and reliability.

The participating aviation institutes include Thakur Institute of Aviation Technology in Mumbai, Pune Institute of Aviation Technology (PIAT) in Pune, JRN Institute of Aviation Technology (JRNIAT) in Delhi, and Hindustan Aviation Academy (HAA) in Bengaluru. Through this collaboration, the programme seeks to strengthen India’s aviation talent pipeline and support the long-term development of skilled professionals for the country’s expanding MRO and airline sectors.

Designed for students who have completed their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), the programme provides a strong pathway for aspiring aviation professionals. It focuses on developing practical, industry-focused skills that can help participants explore a wide range of career opportunities across the aviation sector.

Since launching operations in August 2022, Akasa Air has followed an ambitious growth strategy, steadily expanding its presence in India’s aviation market. The airline currently operates a fleet of 43 aircraft and continues to enhance its domestic and international connectivity while focusing on operational reliability and passenger experience. With a confirmed order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and 183 more aircraft expected to join the fleet over the next six years, Akasa Air is strengthening its long-term expansion plans and preparing to support the increasing demand for air travel in India.
