Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced an extensive overhaul of its Airbus A350-900 ultra-long-range (URL) aircraft, set to elevate the in-flight experience with a new, luxurious four-seat first-class cabin and upgraded business-class seats. This ambitious retrofit, scheduled to be operational by mid-2026, represents a S$1.1 billion (around US$835 million) investment, focused on redefining comfort for travelers on some of the world’s lengthiest flights, including the marathon 18-hour route connecting New York and Singapore.

At present, SIA’s ultra-long-range A350-900s are configured with only business and premium economy classes. The new layout will introduce 70 business-class seats—up from the current 67—alongside 58 premium economy seats, a reduction from 94. The new business-class suites are set to feature sliding doors, a popular enhancement among premium carriers aiming to provide greater privacy and comfort for discerning travelers.

Beyond the ultra-long-range fleet, SIA is also planning a refresh for its 34 long-range Airbus A350s. These aircraft will retain 42 business-class seats and 24 premium economy seats, while standard economy seating will increase slightly from 187 to 192.

SIA’s CEO, Goh Choon Phong, reaffirmed the airline’s dedication to “pushing the frontiers of comfort, luxury, and modern design,” though exact details of the new first-class and business-class amenities remain undisclosed. Additional upgrades to in-flight entertainment will also be introduced, aligning with SIA’s commitment to delivering an exceptional journey for long-haul passengers.

This major investment underscores Singapore Airlines’ ongoing pursuit of luxury and innovation, catering to the evolving expectations of travelers who prioritize comfort and privacy on ultra-long-haul flights.
