SriLankan Airlines and Korean Air have officially launched a fresh codeshare agreement starting March 15, 2024, offering improved travel choices and seamless connections for passengers flying between Colombo and Seoul.
Richard Nuttall, Chief Executive Officer of SriLankan Airlines stated: “We are delighted to
launch our first-ever codeshare partnership with Korean Air, and boost the connectivity
between Colombo and Seoul. The passenger traffic between the two cities continues to
exceed our expectations, and the partnership will only help us grow our presence in this
route in a manner that is fast and economical for the airline, and give more reasons for
customers to choose SriLankan Airlines.”
The new partnership between SriLankan Airlines and Korean Air facilitates codesharing on flights linking Singapore and Seoul Incheon, granting passengers the convenience of seamless travel on a single SriLankan Airlines ticket from Colombo to Incheon via Singapore. Concurrently, Korean Air will codeshare on SriLankan Airlines-operated flights between Colombo and Seoul Incheon, Singapore, Chennai in India, and Male in the Maldives.
Presently, SriLankan Airlines offers a twice-weekly direct service between Colombo and Incheon. Through this collaboration, SriLankan Airlines connects with Korean Air’s extensive network in the Far East, offering passengers the option of daily flights between Colombo and Seoul via Singapore.
Likewise, passengers flying with Korean Air gain access to SriLankan Airlines’ comprehensive network across the Indian Subcontinent, covering India and the Maldives extensively. SriLankan Airlines operates nearly 100 weekly flights across nine Indian cities and 23 weekly flights to the Maldives, including triple daily flights between Colombo and Chennai, and triple daily flights between Colombo and Male.
These codeshare flights are available for booking through the online reservation systems and sales offices of both SriLankan Airlines and Korean Air, as well as through various external travel agencies. Passengers of both airlines benefit from multiple flight options and seamless connections, facilitated by the convenience of a single ticket for multi-sector journeys, which includes through check-in and baggage transfer.
The initiation of the codeshare partnership between SriLankan Airlines and Korean Air signifies a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity between Sri Lanka and South Korea. With increased flight choices, streamlined connections, and strengthened market presence, both airlines are poised to provide an enhanced travel experience for passengers while fostering stronger ties between the two nations.
