This marks the third consecutive quarter of growth in Florida’s visitor numbers, with domestic travel driving the increase.

Of the total visitors, 25.6 million arrived by air, underscoring the importance of major airports such as Orlando International Airport, Tampa International Airport, and Miami International Airport in facilitating Florida’s tourism boom.

Despite the impact of hurricanes Debby, Helene, and Milton during the peak travel season, Florida managed to post record third-quarter numbers. Dana Young, President and CEO of Visit Florida, commended the resilience of Floridians.

“The hard work and resilience of Floridians have been instrumental in keeping our tourism industry strong, showcasing the best of what our state has to offer,” she said in a prepared statement.

Domestic vs. International Travel

An estimated 31.8 million U.S. visitors traveled to Florida between July and September 2024, up from 31.2 million in the same quarter of 2023.

Meanwhile, international travel, although still lagging behind pre-pandemic levels, saw improvement.

Approximately 2.27 million overseas travelers and 582,000 Canadians visited the state, reflecting an increase compared to 2023 and 2022 numbers.

However, these figures have yet to reach the levels recorded in 2019, when 2.5 million overseas visitors and 703,000 Canadians visited during the same period.

Year-to-Date Performance

For the first three quarters of 2024, Florida has welcomed an estimated 109.7 million visitors, representing a 1.8% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

This consistent growth underscores Florida’s resilience and appeal as a travel destination despite weather-related challenges.

Marketing Efforts to Boost Tourism

In response to the hurricanes, Visit Florida launched a $5.75 million marketing campaign to reassure tourists that Florida remains open and ready to welcome visitors.

The initiative initially focused on unaffected destinations such as Amelia Island, Islamorada, and Pensacola. It will now expand to highlight fully recovered destinations, including Tampa, Naples, and Fort Myers, while providing support to heavily impacted areas like Pinellas, Sarasota, and Manatee counties.

Governor Ron DeSantis emphasized the importance of these record-breaking numbers as a testament to Florida’s status as the premier travel destination in the United States.

“Florida’s thriving tourism industry is proof of the state’s unmatched appeal and the dedication of our communities to showcasing the best of what we have to offer,” he said.

As Florida’s tourism numbers continue to climb, cities like Orlando, Tampa, Miami, and Naples remain key drivers of this success, contributing to the Sunshine State’s global reputation as a top-tier destination.
